Throughout life I have heard people say "I don't have to go to church, God knows my heart, we are good.' Or, "the Bible doesn't say we have to go to church."
Both of those statements are false. There are many places throughout the Bible where God says to gather together.
This verse Psalm 50:5 states for the saints who have made a covenant(agreement) with him by sacrifice are to gather to Him.
Yes, this was written in the old testament when sacrifices to God where typically an offering of livestock or grain from their harvest. No, we do not make those sacrifices under the covenant of the new testament. However, lets's look at sacrifice God made for us, a sinful people. He stepped into the world filled with evil. Walked a sinless life, providing an example and teachings through Jesus Christ. Stood falsely accused and persecuted. Was brutally mocked and beaten for our transgressions. Hung on a cross and with what little breath He had left prayed for all mankind.
Now I ask you, what have you sacrificed to honor the King of Kings and Lord of Lords that paid it all for you?
How many times have you been too busy to go to church and worship Him?
How many excuses have you made to just stay home and watch the game or just hang out on the couch?
How many lies have you accepted as truth and allowed to justify disobeying God's word?
